Brandi Carlile is an American singer and songwriter. Carlile’s music has been categorized in several genres including pop, rock, alternative country and folk.
Columbia Records signed Carlile in late 2004 on the strength of songs she’d been recording periodically at home. Released in 2005, Brandi Carlile showcased those early songs along with several newly recorded tracks. Along with the Hanseroth brothers, forming the core of her band today, Brandi spent the better part of two years on the road honing the songs that would later become part of her album “The Story”.
Her second album, The Story, was released in April 2007. It was produced by T Bone Burnett and includes a collaboration with the Indigo Girls on “Cannonball.” The album was recorded in an eleven-day-long session with Carlile , the twins (Tim and Phil Hanseroth) and drummer Matt Chamberlain to capture the raw intensity of Carlile’s live performances. The crack in Carlile’s vocals during the title track, “The Story”, came out by accident and was a direct result of the way the album was recorded. Carlile herself describes the vocals as “technically wrong but emotionally right.”

It reached the top twenty in the UK and produced three singles. In 2008, the album was shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize in Ireland.

Aimee Mann (born September 8, 1960) is an American, rock guitarist, bassist, singer, and noted songwriter. She has won one Grammy Award (for the packaging of her “The Forgotten Arm” album). A Harry Nilsson cover for the “For the Love of Harry: Everybody Sings Nilsson” tribute album. Later appears on the “Magnolia” soundtrack to the highly acclaimed Oscar-nominated film from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson that interweaves stories inspired by the music of Aimee Mann.

Aşa (pronounced “Asha”), was born in Paris in 1982 and raised in Nigeria. She is a singer-songwriter and recording artiste. Her stage name “Aşa” means “Hawk” in Yoruba. “I was a tomboy and when I was a teenager I became very shy because people made fun of me…in my own way, I was already attracting attention ! I got in the habit of never doing anything like everyone else. People didn’t understand my low-pitched deep voice, the choirs didn’t want anything to do with me. The song was created for Converse’s centennial and was released in June 2008. The Times made “My Drive Thru” their track of the day, calling it “a three-headed Frankenstein monster of coolness” that was “a lovely attempt to allow guitar music, beats and R’n'B to come together in one happy bundle.”

Santogold was lead singer of the Philadelphia-based punk rock/ska band Stiffed, whose 2003 album, Sex Sells, and 2005 album, Burned Again, were produced by Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer. While in this group, she was offered a solo contract by Martin Heath of Lizard King Records. Her initial singles “Creator” and “L.E.S. Artistes” received attention from Internet media in 2007. White also appeared on Mark Ronson’s 2007 album Version, performing on a cover of The Jam’s “Pretty Green”.
